Things that make you go hmmm…

I was reminded of this song, and it’s fantastic, groundbreaking video (directed by Marcus Nispel) the other day. The combination of animation and live footage is stylish, really clever, funny, and perfectly integrated with the funk. It at once is both timeless and perfectly sums up a certain late 80’s early 90’s aesthetic… influenced not a little by the graphic language of Saul Bass… which comes around again and again, as each generation of ‘discovers’ it!

The Galliano cover below, from round about the same time (1992 – the C&C video is from 1990) is another case in point…

Saul Bass: Famous title sequences from Preminger to Scorsese

Some of the most remarkable opening titles designed by Saul Bass, sometimes in collaboration with his wife Elaine Bass.
From “The Man with the Golden Arm” (1955) to “Casino” (1995), this video represents a substantial part of his creative legacy in chronological order.
